Ponte dell’Accademia bridge is famous more for the views along the Grand Canal than the bridge design itself. Found at the Southernmost part of the city, the bridge spans the Grand Canal and serves as the connection between Piazza San Marco and Galleria dell’Accademia. The original construction of the bridge was supposed to be in 1488 CE. However, due to lack of funds, it was postponed until 1854. The original bridge was a metal design however it suffered the same backlash as Ponte degli Scalzi and was changed into a wooden bridge in the 1930s designed by Eugenio Miozzi.
The bridge has only recently completed a multi-year refurbishment as of 2018, and so is now ready to be photographed without scaffolding after a long hiatus.
