The Rialto market (Mercato di Rialto) is one of the most important and ancient markets in Italy and is one of the obligatory stops for those visiting the city of Venice. The main fish and fresh grocery market of Venice, it has been a hub of commercial activity since the 11th century. Located near the Rialto Bridge, it stretches between Campo San Giacomo di Rialto and Campo della Pescaria and hosts the famous fish market and the fruit and vegetable market.
The Merceria path would lead mariners and traders from Piazza San Marco to here to ply their wares. The market is divided into a fruit and vegetable market (erbaria) and a picturesque fish market (pescaria). You have to pay a visit to the market to enjoy the true flavours of Venetian food and wine products that are harvested from the surrounding areas.
