Chiesa di Santissimo Redentore (Il Redentore) was built as a thanksgiving to Christ the Redeemer after a deadly plague hit the city. For almost five centuries, Venetians commemorate this event every third Sunday of July. Palladio built the Renaissance-style church on Giudecca in the 16th century with prominent features that include two bell towers on the sides of the cupola and lights that illuminate the interiors.
