One of the most prominent churches in Venice, Basilica di San Giorgio Maggiore started out as a monastery for Benedictine monks. The Renaissance-style church was designed in the 16th century by fabled architect Andrea Palladio and is a feast for the eyes both inside and out.
The façade has majestic columns that support the central section of the church, while the interiors houses works of art by masters Ricci and Bassano. Two of the most prestigious residents of the church are Tintoretto’s “Last Supper” and “Deposition of Christ”.
