Ta Prohm

Made famous by the first Tomb Raider movie, Ta Prohm has a lot of notable features that makes it one of the most photographed temples in the Angkor complex. The overgrowth, including huge trees growing on top of the temples create an almost magical atmosphere. Built by Jayavarman VII around the 12-13th centuries in honour of his family, the site was home to over 12,000 people during its heyday. Similar to other temples, abandonment in the 15th century and neglect allowed the jungle to start to reclaim the temple as its own. Look out for the large “crocodile tree” at the East entrance, the largest of the trees laying their claim on the temple.
