Kampong Phluk

Kampong Phluk (“Harbour of the Tusks”) is a community of stilted houses. During the dry season these houses stand improbably high at over six metres off the ground. During the wet season, a boat is required to move between these houses.

The community sustains itself on fishing year-round, as well as harvesting crops during the dry season (November – April). Tourism is now supplementing this income, and checkpoints are in place to collect tolls before cars get anywhere near the village itself.

The nearby mangrove forests are worth a boat tour where you may get lucky and spot a crocodile.
