Banteay Srei

Bantay Srei (“Citadel of Women”) was built in the late 10th century as the Khmer empire was in the early stages of expanding its territory and gaining power. Nicknamed the “lady temple”, it showcases some of the finest examples of classical Khmer art – intricately carved sandstone work. The condition of the carvings is excellent, and what the site lacks in size is made up for in majesty.
