Han Jiang Ancestral Temple

Constructed in 1870, Han Jiang Ancestral Temple is the clan temple of the Teochew Chinese immigrants, who originally arrived in Penang as plantation farmers and then food traders. The design has the hallmarks of Teochew architecture including the sì diǎn jīn (“four points gold” in Mandarin) principle with a square courtyard formed by the roofs of the surrounding buildings. The exterior façade does look rather plain, however there’s much more going on once you step inside.
